Aston Villa manager Martin ONeill remains relaxed over contract negotiations with Olof Mellberg and Gavin McCann as the pairs contracts run down.

The Villa duos contracts expire in June 2008 but ONeill admits he is yet to enter talks over extending their contracts with the midlands club.

The Irishman said: "I wouldnt read anything into the lack of urgency at the moment at all. In fact, I had spoken to Olof some weeks ago just to see who his agent was, just so that we could get in touch. And I will be speaking to them very shortly."

The 29-year-old Swede recently told the media that he was in no hurry to pen a new deal.

ONeill confirmed that McCann is in the same position as Mellberg.

"Similarly, I had spoken to Gavin very, very briefly about the same thing. It was not a long, convoluted conversation but it is something we will sit down and address."

Villa return to action after a three-week break this weekend when they visit Fulham in a Premiership clash.

Five days of that were spent at a training camp in Spain, giving ONeill ample opportunity to sit down with Mellberg and McCann.

The Villa boss continued: "I wasnt wildly sure that I wanted that as part of the remit of the break that we had, but I have got loads of time coming up now. I am also mindful of the fact that I dont want things to run too far into the year."
