Dowie Named As Addicks Boss

Iain Dowie has just been named as the new Charlton Athletic boss.

After leaving the manager’s post at Crystal Palace Dowie stated a desire to be closer to his family as the main reason for his departure. It will therefore come as a surprise to Palace chairman Simon Jordan that he has only made a short trip across London when he expected Dowie to move to a club further north.

The new Charlton manager will have a difficult task ahead of him to follow in the footsteps of Alan Curbishley who quit as Addick’s boss earlier this month.

Dowie has beaten off a host of top candidate’s for the job at The Valley and is expected to bring in the backroom team of Les Read, Mark Robson and Andrew Mills.

No doubt he has the qualities of a good manager but will he be able to replace Alan Curbishley.

Over the years long term succesful managers are difficult to replace, they live in the shadow of recent previous managers and when results don't match previous records fans get disappointed easliy.

Hope that Charlton fans give him a chance.

Spot on Juan. But you are stating the obvious results and fans decide the future of managers. Although Charlton have been over-achieving with Curbs.

Just been announced that Simon Jordan has issued a writ against Dowie for apparantly telling fibs regarding the reasons for his departure from Palace.

Looks like this one is going to get messy.

Simon Jordan at Palace is not a happy chappy, just watched the report on Sky Sports.

He has plenty of valid points too and I can understand his anger but I think he will have trouble proving that Dowie knew what he was doing when he left Palace.

It will be interesting to see the developments later in the week.

He may well have known exactly what he was doing but Simon Jordan will have to prove it.

If nothing was put in writing for Dowies regardless of what he had said to him his reasons for leaving Jordan could end up with egg on his face.

Sound like he's pissed off and fancies a fight.
