Manchester United Can Match Chelsea According To Fergie

Although his team kept the title race going longer than expected, the 3-0 defeat at Stamford bridge appeared to point to a wide gap between the top two.

The Red Devils finished eight points adrift of Chelsea but with no new signings yet at Old Trafford and Ruud van Nistelrooy's future in the balance, United fans are decidedly uneasy about next season.

Chelsea have already added Kalou from Feyenoord and German star Michal Ballack. Now with Chelsea signing arguably the world's finest striker in Andrei Shevchenko, the task ahead for Manchester United and Alex Ferguson is daunting to say the least.

Prospects for United fans and indeed Liverpool and Arsenal are already looking bleak with Chelsea’s power spending.
Ferguson told the official Manchester United magazine.

"We are as good as them, there is no question,"

"Our win over them in November showed all the clubs that if you prepare properly and get at them, then you can get a result.

"But they are ruthless in defence and that was the difference this season.

"Anyone who watches the progress of the club can see there is a new team evolving which shows great promise. I am convinced and determined about that."

It remains to be seen who exactly Ferguson will sign this summer but the rumour mill has begun with Argentine midfield playmaker Juan Roman Riqulme and Lyon’s Mahamadou Diarra.

Only if clubs like Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal can ALL be more competitive against Chelsea and beat them. Only then will man utd have a chance..

The chances of this happening are slim, and with Shevchenko arriving....

Slim just left town

Has there ever been a bigger favourite than Chelsea to win the Premiership next season?

Fergie is in cuckoo land if he thinks than Man U are even close to Chelsea. Major surgery is required at Old Trafford before they can win the Premiership again.

Fergie is having a laugh mate, absolute no chance he can keep up with us.

I will put my house on us winning the Premiership for AT LEAST the next 2 years and the CL in that time as well.
