Boateng Signs Contract Extension

Dutch internationalist George Boateng has ended months of speculation and signed a new contract with Middlesbrough.

The 30 year old midfielder has signed an extension on his contract until the summer of 2009.

Many 'Boro fans had feared losing their midfield powerhouse on a Bosman when his contract expires this summer. After losing Bolo Zenden to Liverpool last year 'Boro fans will be delighted that Boateng has penned a new contract.

He told the Riversides club’s website” It’s such good news because this is the only thing that I have wanted.

"It's been a long time coming because I think it was last year when I started negotiations with the club."

He went on to say "Right from the start I made my feelings quite clear that I wanted to stay.

"Everybody was well aware of Bolo's situation last year - and I know a lot of people thought I was going to do the same thing and leave the club."

Boateng Just missed out on a place in the Dutch world cup squad for Germany 2006.

I thought that he would be on the move. No disrespect to 'Boro but he is an excellent player who could play for a bigger club.

At 30 a 3 year contract is a pretty good offer for him.

Still those muppets are still only the 2nd best team in the north-east
