Fifa Must Act - Taylor

Players' chief Gordon Taylor is calling on FIFA to review their legislation in light of the Carlos Tevez affair.

Taylor believes there is a need for world football's governing body to stamp out third-party ownership of players across the board.

Tevez has finally been cleared to join Manchester United from West Ham after a long-drawn out saga with his representative Kia Joorabchian a key figure.

"It is a warning of the problems that can ensue," said Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association. "FIFA now has to take a lead.

"They need to make sure that if there is going to be a registration system for players then the onus has to lie with the clubs to hold that registration.

"Otherwise it is going to be anarchy and the game is going to be in the hands of third parties.

"Clearly it could raise all sorts of problems in the same way you have clubs in the same competition owned by one owner. It comes down to sporting integrity."

Taylor has told players to tread carefully when they are sorting out their business interests.

He added: "They must be very wary of allowing their rights to be owned by an outside party.

"Perhaps in light of new regulations on agents, the Premier League and other leagues need to see all the relevant documentation at the time of transfers."
